The 4th Anniversary of the 3.11 Earthquake

Four years after the Great East Japan Earthquake

Today, March 11, is the fourth anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to offer my sincerest prayer for the repose of the souls of the victims that were lost in the earthquake. I also would like to express my deepest condolences for all the bereaved families.
For the nearly 230,000 people who are still unable to return home, I sincerely would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to them for their tremendous hardship.

Over the last four years, thanks to the efforts of people working for recovery, reconstruction including the rebuilding of housing and communities, has steadily been progressing.
However, we hear many compelling voices asking for further acceleration of reconstruction. We are tackling reconstruction at full stretch, in cooperation with the municipalities, industries and NPOs.

The revitalization of Fukushima continues to be a momentous subject. Incorporating the wishes of all the people of Fukushima, we will proceed with measures including our submission of an amendment bill for the Act on Special Measures for Fukushima Reconstruction and Revitalization.

As the Minister of Reconstruction, I renew my pledge to accelerate the reconstruction, standing close with the affected people up until the reconstruction is accomplished.
